十二平方呎的畫展

排檔，一直以來都跟消費掛上等號，柴米油鹽，衫褲鞋襪，家居用品，都可以在這些小檔買到，種種的貨品，卻脫不了金錢的交易。


在中環石板街有一個攤檔，除了傳統的綠色鐵皮外牆，還有一塊現代的落地玻璃，檔內陳列著一幅幅的塑料彩畫，在這人流如鯽的街頭，加上一層藝術色彩。

Hawker stalls, typically only sell stuffs like daily necessaries, clothing, home ware, etc. However amongst those on the Puttinger Street (a.k.a "Stone Street") in Central, there is one, in addition to its traditional green metal body, covered with glass displaying several acrylic paintings.  This petite gallery has spiced up the street with its artistic nature.

柏顏是一位本地畫家，畫的畫多以景物為主。她自小對繪畫已有濃烈興趣，中學會考時亦有選修美術科，希望可以入讀中大FINE ART發展自己興趣，不過學校高中課程不設美術科，將一個青年人的夢想扼殺了，結果入讀了當時炙手可熱的BBA。畫家夢未圓，只好畢業後再追尋，她在畢業後上興趣班學戶外寫生，開始了自己的藝術路。
 

Pakngan is a local artist; her painting mainly involves scenery and landscape.  Since childhood, she has developed a strong interest in painting.  She has chosen Fine Arts as an elective in HKCEE and has planned to enroll into Chinese University of Hong Kong FINE ART to advance her dream.   However, due to lack of coaching and other considerations, Pakngan ended up admitted into BBA instead of Fine Arts.  She has yet to give up being an artist.   After her graduation, to complete her dream, she enrolled into a few painting classes, and that is how she starts her art career.

「嗰陣都係一個一個COURSE咁樣上，有次我畫左一幅大平時一個DOUBLE SIZE既畫，個老師竟然話我可以開畫展，我嗰陣諗「下，唔係咁快下嘛？」自此一幅又一幅的作品面世。「每當放假既時候我都會出去寫生，好似離島，中環都有，多數都係畫景，由97年到而家都係咁。」2001年她在藝穗會開辦了第一個畫展，在2008年，她再開了10年回顧展。
 

"Back then, I enrolled into a few painting courses, and there is one occasion which I drew a painting that is double of this size, and my teacher took a look and said I can hold an exhibition.  And I was like "Seriously?"  Since then, I drew one picture after another.  Since 1997, I have been sketching and painting at outlaying islands and even in Central." Pakngan said.  In 2001, Pakngan opened her first art exhibition in the Fringe Club and her second in 2008.

「有時响銅鑼灣避風塘畫遊艇，都有啲船主走過黎問我可唔可以幫佢畫。」看來她的畫都有不少捧場客呢。

"One time I was painting at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, those boat owners also asked if I could draw for them" she said.  It seems that her paintings have really attracted a sizeable amount of crowd.

中環石板街對上一帶有不少畫廊，可以捨畫廊而取攤檔？原來，也跟強國有關係。


「而家佢地大部份都係中國Contemporary，文革時代既畫家畫，而我本身係畫LOCAL多，我既畫同佢地呢啲畫廊風格唔協調，所以我啲畫基本上都退晒出黎。」原來，除了奶粉、出世紙、商場，連畫廊也在上映本地VS中國的故事。


Pakngan has been exhibiting her work in the galleries around "Stone Street" in Central.  Though moving out from these renowned galleries to a 12-sq-ft stall is a brave decision, turned out it is related to the influence from the PRC.

"Most of the paintings in the gallery are now selling Chinese Contemporary Art, especially from artist around the period of Cultural Revolution, while my painting are more with local favors and thus not quite match with the style" she explained.

每個畫家的夢想，是擁有自己的畫廊，讓大眾欣賞自己的佳作，在中環這十二平方呎，柏顏開了她的私人畫廊。

Every artist's dream is to have their own gallery, to exhibit their masterpiece. At the twelve-square-feet stall in Central, Pakngan launches her petite gallery.

「就算幾細，呢度都係一個屬於自己既GALLERY，而且呢條街既MARKET好好，對住大街，樓上亦有唔少畫廊，而且COST唔係高，係一個好好既地方等人地睇我啲畫。」

"No matter how tiny it is, it is still my own gallery. Besides, the location is good, cost is low, it is just the right place to exhibit my works" she said

在香港談起藝術，大家只會想到音樂或話劇，但他們要糊口，也不是易事，何況是畫家？對此事實，柏顏一早心知肚明，基本上也是預「蝕住做」，還好先生全力支持，租下了這個檔位，兼肩負揍小朋友的工作，才可以在這小檔，繼續尋找自己的理想。只是開檔的時間不太定時，想欣賞這位香港本土畫家的畫作，也許要碰碰運氣。

When we talk about art in Hong Kong, we would immediately think of performing art like music and drama. But how many of them can make a profitable career out of it, not to mention a painter?Pakngan well aware of the fact and expect to see red.  Fortunately, she has a supportive husband, so that this working mom has the courage to rent this stall and pursue her dream of being an artist.  As the gallery has irregular office hour, you guys might need some luck in order to view the works of this local artist.
